About me

Melissa Carter is a familiar voice in Atlanta, having been in local morning radio for 20 years and the first out lesbian in the Atlanta market. She also serves as a columnist for both the GA Voice and Huffington Post. Melissa just published her first children’s book, Whale of An Idea, which is available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. She has dedicated her personal time to LGBT and Women’s advocacy, receiving the SunTrust Inspiring Woman Award, HRC’s Community Leadership Award, and CHRIS Kids Kyle Anderson Service to Youth Award for her efforts. Melissa underwent a life-saving kidney transplant in 2002 and later established the Melissa Carter Transplant Fund at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

“She Persisted” is a show dedicated to women’s voices that broadcast radio doesn’t provide. It is intended to be a conversation on topics that will allow women to feel less alone in their busy worlds.
